A Director-in-the-Loop AI Broadcast System for Reading the City

I designed Social Weather Report as a director-led media system that turns live Angel Compass intelligence into recurring, character-led city broadcasts. It combines persistent hosts, virtual set production, performance tooling, and creative QA without replacing human editorial judgment.

01 / Foundation

The Premise: Product Intelligence Becomes a Show

Angel Compass can help people decide where to go. Social Weather Report gives that intelligence a voice, a rhythm, and a reason to return.
A useful city-discovery product does not automatically become a compelling social format. The challenge was to create a recurring report that could feel culturally native and responsive to the city without requiring a conventional studio, crew, or a new production process every time.
The goal was never one automated video. It was a system that makes a director more powerful.
02 / Episode Grammar

The Show: Format, Hosts, and Editorial Rhythm

Each episode follows a rigorous five-beat broadcast rundown designed to deliver high signal density within a 75 to 90 second vertical runtime.

BEAT 0100:00 - 00:15

Opening Read

High-contrast hook establishing the night's overarching atmospheric temperature and city rhythm.

BEAT 0200:15 - 00:35

City-Intelligence Analysis

Deep dive into live venue density, wait velocity, and neighborhood movement patterns.

BEAT 0300:35 - 00:55

Options and Recommendations

Curated venue picks mapped directly against specific audience intents and time windows.

BEAT 0400:55 - 01:15

Chemistry Beat

Unscripted banter, playful counterpoint, and conversational tension between co-hosts.

BEAT 0501:15 - 01:25

Close

Signature sign-off phrase, clear call to action, and seamless transition back to the live app.

The Studio: Persistent Identity Creates Coverage

Rather than generating isolated one-off renders, the system maintains a calibrated multi-camera coverage grid to support dynamic editorial cutting.

04 / Pipeline Architecture

From Brief to Broadcast: The Production System

A 9-stage modular pipeline orchestrating synthesis, live product capture, and human editorial judgment.

STAGE 01Editorial

Approved concept

Curated city theme, moment candidates, and target venues identified from live telemetry.

STAGE 02Audio Engine

Script and directed voice

Structured five-beat dialogue rendered through character-calibrated voice synthesis.

STAGE 03Identity

Golden reference

Locked source character portrait maintaining exact lighting, attire, and geometry.

STAGE 04Generation

HeyGen avatar pass

Baseline generative avatar lip-sync pass establishing gross head motion.

STAGE 05Synthesis

Hedra performance pass

Nuanced facial micro-expressions, conversational rhythm, and reactive head angles.

STAGE 06Media Engine

Live app media capture

UI-free programmatic map capture highlighting specific neighborhood momentum.

STAGE 07Assembly

Shot assignment

Mapping performance takes and map b-roll into the multi-camera rundown edit.

STAGE 08Director Gate

Creative QA

Frame-by-frame review evaluating eye line integrity, character tone, and broadcast pacing.

STAGE 09Precision

Targeted repair

Isolated re-rendering of rejected shots without regenerating unaffected coverage.

Nearly one-button generation with director approval and targeted shot repair.
AUTOMATION + CONTROL
Performance Contract: One speaker. One voice. One character. One source image. One rendered performance.
05 / Product-to-Video Engine

The App as a Media Engine

The app does not only inform the report. It can appear inside it.

Angel Compass was designed with dedicated media states: UI chrome could be hidden, camera angles set, data points highlighted, and clean editorial b-roll captured directly from the live product map.

The product serves as both the intelligence source and the broadcast graphic generator.

06 / Editorial Standards

The Directing Problem: Technically Valid Is Not Good Television

Generative video tools can produce technically valid motion that fails basic broadcast standards.

01

Framing repetition

Static centered compositions flatten narrative engagement. Television requires intentional cuts between scale, perspective, and intimacy.

02

Character authenticity

Uncalibrated cadence and robotic head bobbing break immersion. Characters need deliberate micro-reactions, pauses, and cultural fluency.

03

Identity and continuity

Drifting facial structure or lighting across takes destroys credibility. Source assets must remain locked across all coverage angles.

[○] TECHNICALLY VALID

Synthesized lip-sync matches audio waveform, but delivery lacks emotional resonance, natural eye movement, and conversational rhythm.

CREATIVELY APPROVED (SHOT REVIEW)

Character persona intact, natural gaze shifts, dynamic vocal emphasis, and seamless cut points into supporting city b-roll.

07 / Operating Model

Human-in-the-Loop Economics and QA

Automation generates. The system tracks. The director decides.

01Do not regenerate full episodes when single shots fail.
02Keep generation costs low and predictable.
03Score each shot against character rules, eye line, and energy.
04Approve or reject at the shot level.
05Only re-render what is broken.

The Product-to-Media Loop

STEP 01
Angel Compass reads the city

Aggregating live telemetry, venue states, moments, and density signals.

STEP 02
Social Weather Report translates the intelligence

Packaging raw data into episodic narratives led by persistent, trusted hosts.

STEP 03
People gain clarity and context

Understanding where energy is peaking, where to go, and why it matters now.

STEP 04
The story creates a reason to return to Angel Compass

Driving high-intent users back into the core product map and decision engine.

I do not only design the place where a decision happens. I design the intelligence, story, and media environment that prepares someone to make it.

09 / Future Horizon

Episode 001 and What Is Next

The Next Layer: Broadcast Packaging and Scale

The production system is working. The next layer is broadcast packaging: richer city footage, map and product cutaways, a life-size phone treatment, typography, transitions, stronger continuity, and a larger library of recurring report formats.
